Shareef is already a rising basketball sensation, but things weren’t always like this.
Shareef found out he had a congenital heart abnormality at the age of 18, a few weeks before his rookie season at the University of California, Los Angeles began. Due to the diagnosis, he required open heart surgery.
It wasn’t easy. At the time, I was considered California’s top player. In a Now For Later podcast interview, he stated, “When they told me, I honestly thought I wouldn’t be able to play basketball ever again.”
Following a successful procedure, Shareef continued playing for Louisiana State University and UCLA. In the end, he dropped out of college early to focus on going pro.

Amirah plays basketball for Texas Southern University as a collegiate athlete. She had previously been a walk-on at LSU, her father’s alma mater.

Shaqir is a sports enthusiast as well. According to ESPN, the TSU forward pledged to “change the narrative” about historically Black institutions and universities during an interview with Overtime.

Me’arah O’Neal, the youngest of the O’Neal siblings, attends Episcopal High School and recently parted ways with CyFair Elite Sports, her after-school basketball program.
Me’arah posted pictures of herself on the court to Instagram to commemorate her departure from the Cyfair squad in July 2023. “It’s official over… “Really bittersweet man, I’m going to miss it 😕,” she captioned the photo. “Words cannot express how appreciative I am… Cyfair, thank you, I love you. 13 is out.”
