The former point guard’s first kid, son Andre (now 42), was born to him and his ex-girlfriend Melissa Mitchell. Magic also shares two children with his wife Earlitha “Cookie” Johnson: son EJ, 31, and daughter Elisa, 28.
“It’s all about you not trying to decide what your daughter or son should be or what you want them to become,” added the father. “It’s all about loving them no matter who they are, what they decide to do.”
Over the years, Magic and Cookie have experienced many joyful experiences with their loved ones, including a Mediterranean yacht cruise with their children and grandkids in July 2023. The NBA star posted an Instagram shot of the group posing on the boat’s deck, as well as a selfie of himself and Cookie.
Andre, EJ, Elisa, Lisa (our son-in-law), Gigi, and Avery (our granddaughters) are all coming out to join Cookie and me on the yacht. It was captioned “Magic” on the post.
What follows is a comprehensive profile of Magic Johnson’s three offspring.
Andre Johnson, 42 Magic’s sole kid, was born to his ex-girlfriend Mitchell on February 20, 1981.
Andre, among Magic’s kids, is the most reclusive. According to Me𝚗’s Health, he has established himself as a successful businessman and entrepreneur who has previously worked for Magic Johnson Enterprises, his father’s investing firm. He was promoted to executive vice president of business development at the virtual sports league SimWin Sports in 2022.
Andre also collaborates with Mike Dupree to present the podcast Please Elaborate, where they talk about current events and pop culture.
He has been married to his wife Lisa since 2010, and the couple now has two children. In 2022, Andre dressed as Uncle Drew as he and his family celebrated Halloween on Instagram.
In 2021, on Father’s Day, the CEO sent Magic a photo of him and his family. “Thank you for being an amazing father to us and pop pop to Gigi and Avery,” he concluded. “I love you and pray that you get some much deserved rest on your special day.”
31-year-old Earvin “EJ” Johnson III
On June 4, 1992, Magic and Cookie Johnson welcomed their son, Earvin “EJ” Johnson III. The middle nаme EJ honors both of EJ’s paternal ancestors.
Both Magic and EJ have been candid about how challenging his transition was. EJ revealed to PEOPLE in 2014 that his parents “pretty much already knew” he was gаy, but they were still afraid of how society would react. “My mom didn’t want me to be scrutinized,” he said. “I just told them I’m going to do what I want regardless of what people sаy.”
According to EJ, “He saw me grow into myself, and we’ve really come full circle with each other,” and Magic, according to EJ’s father, “is courageous and strong enough to let the world know who he is.”
EJ revealed on an episode of EJNYC that Caitlyn Jenner’s 2016 transgender revelations had left him questioning his own gender identification. I gave it some serious consideration,” EJ admitted. To put it simply, I asked myself, “Do I want to make the change?” Is this something I would actually do? However, I don’t feel lacking in any manner. I don’t feel the need to do that.”
He has also discussed how his father’s fаme has affected his own life. In 2018, EJ revealed to Jada Pinkett Smith on Red Table Talk that many me𝚗 were just interested in meeting Magic and being in his company because of his fаme.
It’s been a bаttle from the beginning. So many variables,” he exclaimed. “First of all, the celebrity issue — who are you here for, are you dating me or are you trying to date my dad? Me𝚗 today either only want to be in your life for a fleeting moment before moving on to greener pastures elsewhere, or they want nothing more than to “ride the wave,” “be bougie,” “go out and have their picture taken with you, and all that.”
EJ has been vocal about his gender-neutral style and his lack of interest in transitioning in 2019. “I always sаy that if you feel like you’re not in the right body, then by all means get to where you want to be,” according to him. I don’t see a need to change my gender identity. I can nearly guarantee that I won’t. Simply put, I feel completely at home in my own body. My body is good to me.
They Call Me Magic, a documentary set to premiere in 2022, features Magic discussing EJ’s gender expression. Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union’s parenting of their daughter Zaya was reportedly influenced by EJ’s story, as recounted by EJ’s proud father in an interview. “Be who you want to be, we gonna love you regardless, we gonna support you,” EJ was told by Magic.
Union felt fortunate that her family had the Johnsons to rely on. “They provided us the blueprint. And they’ve been there every single step of the way,” she said. According to Wade, “And to see EJ do the same thing to Zaya, it was amazing.”
In an interview with PEOPLE published in March 2023, Magic gushed over EJ’s successful career. “I think that EJ is really taking charge of his career and making his own decisions, and he knows how and what he wants to get into.”
According to the sportsman, his son “is so beloved all over the world.”
In June 2023, Magic commemorated EJ’s 31st birthday by uploading romantic photographs on Twitter of himself with EJ and Cookie.
The caption reads, “Happy Birthday to my son, EJ,” which Magic wrote himself. Your genuineness and originality inspire me. My favorite thing about you is that you never stop being authentic. “I hope you have a wonderful day.”
Meanwhile, Cookie marked EJ’s special day by posting a number of photos, both old and new, of her kid on Instagram. “To my dearest @ejjohnson_: Happy Birthday! You are the love of my life. “May the Lord look with favor upon you and shower His blessings upon you as you enter your 31st year,” she wished.
On December 21, 1994, Elisa Johnson entered the world. Magic and Cookie adopted Elisa when she was barely 3 days old.
"Embracing Resilience: Elisa's Journey from a Star-Studded LA Upbringing to a Life-Altering Home Invasion. In a 2016 interview with CR Fashion Book, she reflected on her seemingly glamorous Los Angeles childhood as an adopted child, insisting that she never felt like an outsider in her family. From mall trips to Sunset Boulevard dinners, weekend excursions to Malibu, and cherished moments with close friends, her youth unfolded in typical LA fashion. Now residing in Manhattan, she finds convenience in the city life.
However, in December 2018, Elisa's world took a dark turn during a California vacation when she and her friends became victims of a house invasion. Revealing the scars from that traumatic night in a courageous online post, she shared, 'As women, we tend to be quite severe on ourselves. I escaped a home invasion a few months ago, and the ordeal left me with severe scarring on my stomach.' She admitted to concealing these scars due to self-consciousness but has now embraced them as a testament to her past and identity. Proud of her self-healing journey, she declares, 'I am happy with my current physical condition and am proud of myself. #selfhealing.'"
